The latest CAF Club Ranking has been officially released ahead of the start of the 2026/27 CAF inter-club competitions. Mamelodi Sundowns have secured the top spot, surpassing Al Ahly after winning their second CAF Champions League title and maintaining a strong presence in recent years.
Marumo Gallants FC is listed at 21st position in this ranking, reflecting their performance over the past five years. The ranking system considers teams' achievements in various competitions, which can significantly influence qualification for upcoming tournaments such as the CAF Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup qualifiers.
The position of Marumo Gallants FC means they will not have an easier path to the main competition compared to some other teams. Orlando Pirates, for instance, are ranked 19th and must participate in both qualifying rounds before entering the main tournament.
Stellenbosch FC is another South African team that has improved its ranking, now at 21st after their recent success in the CAF Confederations Cup. Bahlabane Ba Ntwa and Kaizer Chiefs are ranked lower, with Chiefs having been eliminated from the group stages of the CAFCC last season.
It's important to note that Marumo Gallants FC’s current ranking is based on their participation in the 2022/23 CAF Confederations Cup, where they reached the semi-finals. However, without qualifying for a CAF inter-club competition this year, they will not be able to improve their standing.
